07 Jun 2020 0 Comments

Following on from our previous entry into our mens suits style hall of fame series. We have chosen another Hollywood legend for our latest blog post, albeit one who is still working today. The world renowned heart throb – George Clooney.

Clooney was born in Lexington, Kentucky in the USA. Born into a family which was no stranger to the celebrity life. His Father a TV anchorman and gameshow host, Mother a beauty queen. As well as various cousins and aunts famous for filling our screens with their acting abilities. It was only natural for the young Clooney to be drawn into this lifestyle. Initially starting out with small roles in TV shows such as Roseanne and even the Golden Girls! It wasn’t until 1993 when he was finally given his big break starring in the medical drama ER, playing Dr. Doug Ross, instantly catapulting him to superstardom on the small screen. During his time on the show, the actor received three Golden Globe nominations and two Primetime Emmy nominations.

From Dusk Till Dawn

During his stint on the show, he also began to dip his feet into a handful of movie roles. His first big screen performance was the Tarrantino scripted (and co-starred) robbery gone wrong / vampire flick – From Dusk Till Dawn.

This was the vehicle that enabled Clooney to show to the world he could hold a movie together. Cast as the ruthless Seth Gecko, a far cry from his portrayal as the good doctor. The film has rightly became a cult classic! Moving forward, he went on to star in a variety of movies with varying success as the box office. Such as Three Kings, Out Of Sight and the Cohen Brothers directed escape convict movie Brother, Where Art Thou?.

George Clooney and his Career

Fast forward to 2001 and Clooney secured the lead role in the remake of the 1960’s Rat Pack Movie. Ocean’s Eleven. Partnering once again with Soderbergh. The movie boasted a massive cast of who’s who in Hollywood. At the time (mimicking the Frank Sinatra original) and went on to be a resounding success! In fact is it still one of George’s highest grossing movies.

Not content with starring in your typical Hollywood blockbuster. Clooney went on to star in a selection of different movies each a dramatically different genre. From the the middle east thriller Syriana to the political drama Good Night, and Good Luck. Or the animated feature length production – Wes Andersons The Fantastic Mr. Fox. Showing the full range and large repertoire of  his acting ability. He never completely said good bye to his action movie heritage. Returning to reprise his role as Danny Ocean in both Ocean’s Eleven sequels.

Awards

His talent was finally recognised in 2011 when he produced the military drama Argo. The film went on to win awards for best picture from the Academy Awards, Golden Globes and the BAFTA’s. Additional fact! George Clooney is the only person credited with being nominated for a total of six different categories in the entire history of the Oscars! Fantastic achievement indeed! With Gravity, The Descendants and Tomorrowland safely under his belt, George is certainly showing no sign of letting up with his film career. In fact, he has a long list of future products currently in production which we can look forward to in the future!

The Suits

Throughout his career, despite whatever part he is playing George Clooney always looks amazing in a suit! He is lightyears ahead of any of the current Hollywood A-Listers, he has single handedly kept the classic looks of the 50’s and 60’s up to date and relevant. Nearly every move in which he stars, he can always be seen in a well fitted suit (even the abominable Batman film, he ensured Bruce Wayne was impeccably dressed). His timeless style transcends out of the big screen, he always looks the part dressed in that classic style even whilst venturing around town. When was the last time you saw Clooney paparazzi snapped wearing a tracksuit? He’s even been known to sport that most classic of UK styles, wearing tweed suits.
