The Interview: Making A Good Impression

05 Sep 2023

Interviews are nerve racking at the best of times, not to mention when you have to do them virtually. With interviews being taken over video chats now its even harder to show and read body language. This can make things difficult when you are trying to navigate an interview for your dream job. Besides showing off your skills, making a good impression overall is key to a successful interview. Whether its in person or from behind a computer screen. Here are just a few tips to make sure you make the best impression possible.

Look the part

How you present yourself at an interview is important. Remember, this is the employers first impression of you before you have a chance to tell them how great you’d actually be at your job. Whether you’re interviewing at a zoom call or in person. Be sure to wear smart, presentable clothing and some sleek accessories to add some personality to your look. Don’t be afraid to change out what you wear, some jobs are a lot more informal than others. So, just be sure to gage which end of the spectrum this company and job role is on.

Know Your Stuff

There is nothing worse than turning up to an interview completely unprepared, for both yourself and the employer. Make sure you have done your research on potential questions and have idea on how to answer them in the forefront of your mind. Some employers like to think up some questions on the spot too. In order to really sell yourself, be sure to know everything there is to know about the role and the company you are applying for.

Ask Questions

No employer wants to hire someone who only speaks when they are spoken too and are someone who just smiles and nods along to everything they have to say. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, this is a great way to build rapport with your potential employer and highlight your enthusiasm for the role. there is no harm in writing a few questions down before your interview, as they say, preparation is key!

Be Enthusiastic

You want the interview to know just how much you want this job. Not only that but you want to be sure they know you’ll be good at it. Let them know just how much you love your job, which parts you’d enjoy and which parts you’d like to change in your next role. Be sure to make it clear that you are taking in everything they are telling you about the job too. Employers like to know they are hanging on their every word, it shows just how motivated and driven you are.
